American Legion Auxiliary Unit 263 News

Summer began with the annual brat fry fund raiser for Badger State. The girls attended the leadership event at UW-Oshkosh in June and then joined the combined Post/Auxiliary membership in August for a potluck. We encourage all Junior students to apply for the 2012 event through your guidance counselor.

Auxiliary members spent the rest of the summer working the Iola car show, having a pizza and ice cream party to celebrate Russella Wochinski’s last month as president, and then attended both state convention in Appleton and national convention in Minneapolis. Conferences and conventions are always a good time to fellowship with like individuals devoted to helping those who have served their country here and abroad.

Donations received from the annual poppy push this past May are being turned around to the various facilities our local veterans use throughout the state. A big thank you goes out again to community individuals and businesses who contributed to the support of those in rehab. Post members continue to help us with the poppies and we will be helping them with their pancake breakfast coming up on Sunday, October 16.

Ongoing support of our veterans and current military is always the main focus of meetings and projects. We welcome any interested and patriotic individual to join us for our next meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13. Come at 6 p.m. if you want to share in a potluck with the Post members. The Legion clubhouse is located at 840 E. North Water Street in New London. We’re always interested in new projects so if you have an idea please come and share.

Anyone in need of transportation should call to arrange for rides to meetings and/or events. Questions may be directed to Donna Bellettiere 920-986-3712 or Donna Hanson 982-2513.
