Soccer team suffers heartbreak loss in overtime

The Clintonville Truckers Varsity Soccer team lost in a “nail-biter” on Thursday, Sept. 22 to Berlin on Berlin’s home turf.

The Truckers played awesome soccer and looked in sync from the start. They passed the ball well, but took only three shots on goal the first half. The offense worked in a great play but missed a dream shot by mere inches.

Berlin was a worthy opponent and broke through the Trucker defense and scored at the ten minute mark and again at sixty-five minutes into the game.

The Truckers were down by two goals. Keeper Conner Ford made some great saves on goal. This team of determined boys rallied and came back with mere minutes left in the eighty minutes of play.

Dominic Masiarchin made a breakaway run at the seventy-forth minute. His speed and excellent agility brought him back into scoring range. He scored big for the Truckers with six minutes left of play.

Berlin took some defensive chances, which finally brought about a penalty. Juan Hernandez scored on an unbelievable shot with one minute left of the game on a free kick. The Trucker bench went crazy. Hernandez had tied the game.

The Truckers would ride their momentum into the ten-minute, sudden death overtime. They played hard, but a Berlin player broke free and shot. Ford would stop the initial shot, but the Berlin player scored on the loose rebounded ball. It was a well played come-back game for the Truckers, only to lose in sudden death with a score of 2-3.

The Soccer Club has added two JV games at home next week to give the underclassmen of this Varsity team some valuable playing time off the bench. JV will host Winneconne and Waupaca at 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Thursday. The Varsity team will host Ripon on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Parent’s night introductions will happen before the home game. The Soccer Club would like to invite the fans to come out for a great night of soccer and support this team. There is no admission fee or sports pass needed for soccer games.
