ThedaCare offers flu shot clinic

ThedaCare Physicians will offer a flu shot clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at the Waupaca Senior Center, 407 School St.

The regular flu shot is $35 and FluMist, which is administered via the nose, is $44. For patients over the age of 65, a high-dose vaccination, which has more four times as much antigen as the regular shot, is available for $51. Most insurance providers and Medicare cover flu shots.

The pneumococcal vaccine is also available for adults. People over the age of 65 are encouraged to receive this vaccination, which helps prevent pneumonia. Medicare covers the cost.

“We encourage people to get vaccinated early to ensure they are protected before flu season arrives,” said Dr. Michael Fetterolf, with ThedaCare Physicians-New London.

Everyone six months of age and older should be vaccinated for the flu, Fetterolf said. Getting the vaccine is particularly important for certain groups, including children ages 6 months to 18 years old, pregnant women, people over the age of 50, people living with a chronic medical condition, people living in nursing homes, and healthcare workers who are considered high-risk.

“Even if you are a healthy person, it’s still important to get vaccinated to not only protect yourself from the flu but also help prevent the spread of the virus to more vulnerable persons,” said Dr. Gil Burgstede, with ThedaCare Physicians-Waupaca.
