New dance team ‘Igniting’ area youth

The New London Ignite All-Stars is a competitive cheer team whose main goal is to provide area youth with the opportunity to grow and develop their skills in the sport of cheer.

When the former Wolf River Stars disbanded last year, New London Parks and Recreation Department was approached to take on this hugely popular sport that encompasses gymnastics, stunt, pyramids and dance. With weekly practice from 4-6 p.m. on Sundays, it’s a great way for youth to end the weekend and won’t get in the way of other scheduled events.

Coach Stacy Ruckdashel cheered all through middle and high school, and went on to obtain a masters degree in education with a minor in coaching from UW-Oshkosh. She has been a coach for Wolf River Stars the past eight years. It brings her great joy and satisfaction to be coaching this cheer and dance team. But cheer is not the only sport she excels in. Ruckdashel has been coaching swimming for New London for the past 14 years.

The coach teaches responsibility and team work that requires a 100 percent commitment. Teams work together and if one person is missing, practices become difficult.

Practice takes place at the Washington Center gymnasium at 500 Washington St., and started Oct. 2, but there is still room and a need for more participants.

Your child must be enrolled starting in 3rd grade through the 5th grade for the junior team. Exceptions may be made depending on openings.

The senior team consists of students in 6th grade and up to a senior in high school.

The registration fee for the senior team is $525, and the junior team $475. This includes cost of competitions, nationals and operating costs for the program.

This year the team will be participating in competitions within Wisconsin, going as far as Green Bay, Appleton, Fond du Lac, Madison and Stevens Point. To celebrate this first year with a new name, the Ignite All-Stars have brand new uniforms in blue and silver and the cost for the uniforms is $129. With participants staying with the competition team for many years, the cost is defrayed considerably.
