Service errors hurt W-F

The Weyauwega-Fremont volleyball team posted a 1-2 record Saturday, Oct. 8, in Central Wisconsin 8 Conference pool play at Stevens Point Pacelli.

The Indians opened the tournament by sweeping Iola-Scandinavia 25-22, 25-6, 25-13, but dropped three of four games to Pacelli and Manawa.

Pacelli defeated W-F 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22, while Manawa took three of four games from the Indians. W-F won the first game 25-18, but the Wolves rebounded with 25-18, 25-19 and 25-21 wins.

“A grand total of 28 service errors was a huge factor in the losses,” coach Rena Tomaszewski said.

Team leaders included Teal Tomaszewski (74 digs and 81 service receptions); Maggie Knecht (four solo blocks); Jordan Krause (three assisted blocks); Bailey Kapitzke (30 kills); Danielle Austreng (26 kills); and Mariah Hulbert (26 service points and 37 assists).

The Indians hosted Shiocton Tuesday, Oct. 11, in the second round of pool play.

W-F 3, Manawa 2

MANAWA – The Indians won the first two and fifth games over the Wolves. Scores were 28-26, 25-12, 20-25, 24-26, 15-11.

Team leaders included Kaptizke (17 kills, 22 service points, nine aces); Tomaszewski (31 digs, 37 service receptions); Sydney DeSantis (19 assists); Austreng (15 kills); and Hulbert (15 assists).

The Indians will open state tournament play Tuesday, Oct. 18. First-round pairings for W-F and other area teams can be found at www.waupacanow.com as soon as they are announced.
