Teamwork gives Waupaca win over Ripon

Waupaca’s Nicki Nelson (left) and Carli Navin go up to block a shot from Ripon’s Kayla Putzer Thursday, Oct. 6, during an Eastern Valley Conference match at Waupaca High School.

The Comets swept the Tigers 25-14, 25-20, 25-20.

“We played a great match against Ripon,” coach Bret Rodenz said. “All of our players had the opportunity to see some court time and they all played well together.”

Navin and Hannah Butkiewicz led the team with eight and seven kills, respectively, while Nicole Donaldson and Alyssa Manteufel chipped in with 15 and eight assists.

The Comets traveled to Freedom Tuesday, Oct. 11, and will wrap up the season at home at 7 tonight (Thursday, Oct. 13) on Parents’ Night against Winneconne. State tournament play begins Tuesday, Oct. 18.
