Food for Fines at Waupaca library

During the last week in October, the Waupaca Area Public Library is offering patrons with overdue fines the opportunity to pay them with food.

The program, known as Food for Fines, benefits the Waupaca Area Food Pantry.

“For each item of food donated, $1 in overdue fines will be waived,” said Library Director Peg Burington. “The program does not include payments for lost or damaged items. Participation in Food for Fines is optional, though I hope residents consider giving food, especially now, with so many people having a hard time. They’re our neighbors; this is a neighbor helping neighbor.”

The Waupaca Area Food Pantry has a specific need for crackers, cereal, baking supplies, mixes, soup, spaghetti sauce and paper products.
