Jurek, Edward C.

Edward C. Jurek, age 99 of Shiocton, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at Peabody Manor in Appleton. Ed was born on July 22, 1912, in Menasha, Wisconsin, the son of the late Joseph and Thekla (Brzycki) Jurek. He attended St. John’s Polish School for eight years and then obtained his high school education via mail correspondence. Ed married Bernice Lawler and enjoyed 59 years of marriage with her until her death in 1994. Throughout his career, Ed worked at Bernstein Paper Company, Menasha Wire Works, Marathon Paper Company, and lastly, Clintonville 4-Wheel Drive, retiring as Plant Engineer. Ed enjoyed bee-keeping, produce farming, maintaining a greenhouse and orchard, and square dancing. All who knew Ed remember him for his greeting “yahk syeh meash” -Polish for “how do you do.” Ed is survived by his four children, Janice (Curt) Pilcher, James (Gayle) Jurek, JoAnn (Tom) Meier, and Juretta (Gary) Olinger; 9 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Bernice; grandson, John Jurek; one brother; 3 sisters, several nieces and nephews; and long time loyal friend, Esther May Bruyette. A funeral service for Ed will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Thursday, October 27, 2011, at Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home-Shiocton. Family and friends may call directly at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery, Township of Bovina. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred
