Krohn, Jean Gordon

Jean Gordon Krohn (nee Nelson) passed away September 12, 2011 in Oshkosh, WI at Evergreen Retirement Community. Jean was born June 11, 1915 and married Hilbert C. Krohn on September 29, 1935. Jean graduated from Waupaca High School then attended Downer College and Miss Browns Business School both in Milwaukee. She worked at Children’s Hospital and for Dr. John Gordon also both in Milwaukee. She loved children, and when her own children were young, she started Teddy Bear Day Nursery in Milwaukee, one of the first licensed daycare centers in the State of Wisconsin. She was also active in various early childhood educational organizations. After 26 years of operating Teddy Bear Nursery she retired and moved back to Waupaca where she had grown up. Jean was fond of Waupaca and had deep roots in the community. Two of her grandparents were mayors of Waupaca in the early nineteen hundreds and her family owned the Nelson Lumber Company. She is survived by her three children: Gordon C. Krohn, Neenah; Barbara J. Baker, Oshkosh and Pamela A. Pfeffer (Robert) of Oshkosh. Also three grandchildren, John Pfeffer, Christopher K. Baker and Laura Jean Baker (Ryan Ulrich) and nine great grandchildren, John-Michael, Lena, Raina, Irelyn, Savana, Leo, Sebastian, Fern, and Francis. Also nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Nellie and Van Nelson (of Waupaca) and her husband Hilbert as well as her siblings: Gordon, Katherine (Carah), Keith, John (Jack) and Barbara. In her retirement she enjoyed the Chain O Lakes, and most importantly her family. In her final Days she said “I am 96 and have enjoyed every year.”
