Hammes, David A., M.D.

David A. Hammes, M.D., age 93, New London died Saturday, November 5, 2011. David was born on March 19, 1918 in Coleman, WI son of the late Francis and Ethel (Maercklein) Hammes. He served his country in the US Navy as a Naval Aviator. He was a general practitioner in Green Bay for 20 years and delivered more than 2000 babies. David worked as a radiologist at New London Family Medical Center from 1972-1989. He was the team doctor for the New London Bulldogs for many years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, woodworker and competition shooter and was a former state trap shooting champion. He was a lifetime member and former state president of the NRA. He was also an avid Packer fan and an original season ticket holder. David is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Allen) Garske, Lake Geneva; Teresa Hammes, New London; a son, Thomas Hammes, Green Bay. Five grandchildren, Brianna, Abby, Ryan, Connor and Lauren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and George; mother of his children, Naomi Hammes; a daughter, Kristy Lee and his wife, Barbara. A Funeral Mass for David will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, New London with Fr. David Lewis officiating. Full Military Rites will be held. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, 209 W.
