Running Club a hit at Longfellow Elementary

CLINTONVILLE – A new running club at Longfellow Elementary is gaining momentum. Students and staff are working together to achieve healthier lifestyles by exercising as a club.

The Wellness Team decided to start a Running Club and sent home information on the club with every student. Students and parents who were interested attended a meeting in October to learn about the club and had the opportunity to sign up.

“We had 11 students commit to joining our Running Club,” commented Instructor Karen Petermann. “We meet at 7 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at Longfellow. These kids and parents are amazing! We sure appreciate their flexibility in changing their morning schedules to make this happen. We are training to become more fit and to compete in area fun runs. Our ultimate goal is to run in the 6.2 mile Bellin Run in Green Bay in June.”

Practice began Wednesday, Nov. 2. When done with their workout, participants stretched, and then all went to the cafeteria and ate breakfast together as a team. The club will continue stress the importance of eating breakfast every day.

The program is being organized by Petermann and Jackie Hill. They will be looking for more parent and staff volunteers as the club grows and as they train for the Bellin Run.
