T-Bird swim team to start winter season

Area lakes will soon be covered with ice, but the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbird swim team is getting ready for another season.

The team’s winter season will begin Monday, Nov. 28. The 10-week-long season will conclude Saturday, Feb. 4, and the schedule includes a pair of home triangular meets, a home open meet and four away invitationals.

The T-Birds practice from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Iola-Scandinavia Community Fitness & Aquatic Center, with a couple of morning practices during the winter break.

The competitive team is open to boys and girls ages 5-18. Swimmers compete in five age groups and the team is open to swimmers from the area of all abilities.

“We have a large number of swimmers from Amherst, Waupaca and Manawa, as well as Iola-Scandinavia,” coach Dick Wright said. “We also have kids of all ability levels. We have kids who have been swimming for 10 years, but we also have new swimmers every year. Everyone is welcome.”

The team is entering its 11th year of existence and has a summer and winter season.

Sign-up began Oct. 15. Contact Wright at 715-258-2697 or the aquatic center at 715-445-2244, ext. 17.
