Winners announced in speaking contest

The Conservation and Environmental Awareness Speaking Contest was held Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Waupaca Learning Center.

The following students were selected as winners of the contest.

Elementary Division

First Place – Sophia Buhrow, Weyauwega Christ Lutheran School, for her speech, “The Big Mess.”

Second Place – Claire Berndt, Weyauwega Christ Lutheran School, for her speech, titled “Water Filters Gone Bad.”

Third Place – Lauren Kester, Weyauwega Christ Lutheran School, for “Oak Tree, Why do You Wilt So?”

Junior Division

First Place – Mary Jenks, Weyauwega Christ Lutheran School, for “Well Above the Trouble Below.”

Second Place – Hanna Nitzke, Weyauwega Christ Lutheran School, for “The Invasion of the Beatles.”

Third Place – Shawna Vetrone, Weyauwega Christ Lutheran School, for “Wanted, Dead or Alive.”

Senior Division

First Place – Mathilda Robbert, Weyauwega Christ Lutheran School, for “Great Value.”

Other participating students were Landon Buchholtz and Isaiah Wentzel.

This year’s judges were Boyd Simonson, Linda Dahlberg, Roger Holman and Corey Schuelke.

The first place winners spoke at the District Level Competition Oct. 25 in Waupaca, competing against students from Marquette and Outagamie Counties.
