Winchester Academy examines science, spirituality

Jim Trainor will speak about science and spirituality at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at the Waupaca Area Public Library.

Free and open to the public, the program is hosted by Winchester Academy and sponsored by Dr. David Hathaway.

Trainor holds a doctorate in physics from the University of California and was active in scientific research for over 25 years, serving as a senior manager at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. He has published more than 60 professional articles on physics.

He is also an ordained Episcopal priest and has served as pastor of churches in New Mexico, Texas and Wisconsin.

The author of Grasp: Making Sense of Science and Spirituality, Trainor will examine the relationship between scientific knowledge and knowledge about God.

“There is a popular notion that rational scientific inquiry is slowly and relentlessly eroding away what has been seen as ancient spiritual truths,” Trainor says in the preface to his book. “From my perspective this popular notion holds no water.”

Winchester Academy will offer refreshments and conversation at 6 p.m. The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.
