Full-court press works for T-Birds

The Iola-Scandinavia boys’ basketball team will head into Central Wisconsin 8 Conference play on a positive note after knocking off Menominee Indian and Edgar.

The Thunderbirds used a full-court press to hand Menominee Indian a 64-46 loss Friday, Dec. 2, in the home opener. I-S also defeated Edgar 54-50 Tuesday, Nov. 29.

The T-Birds outscored the Eagles 23-10 in the fourth quarter to seal the nonconference win.

I-S led 11-10 after one quarter, 26-22 at halftime and 41-36 heading into the fourth quarter.

Connor Lodewegen finished with a game-high 18 points, while Bradly Hardel added 13.

The T-Birds also hit 18 of 25 free throws, while Menominee Indian attempted only seven.

John Peters led the Eagles with 16 points.

Hardel and Lodewegen scored in double figures to lead the T-Birds to a road win over the Wildcats.

The T-Birds led 12-6 after one quarter, but the Wildcats held I-S to five points in the second quarter to take a 19-17 lead at the break. The T-Birds regained the lead with a 14-9 advantage in the third quarter before outscoring the home team 23-22 over the final eight minutes.

Hardel led I-S with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Lodewegen added 15 points.

Caden Untiedt led Edgar with 21 points.

The 2-1 T-Birds will open CWC-8 play Friday, Dec. 9, at Stevens Point Pacelli before hosting Shiocton Tuesday, Dec. 13, and traveling to Amherst Friday, Dec. 16, for a matchup with the Falcons.
