TerHaar, Carl

Carl TerHaar, 97, former longtime resident of Marshfield, and Racine, died on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Bethany Home in Waupaca. Carl was born on February 4, 1914 in La Crosse and was adopted by Burnette and Addie TerHaar of Weyauwega. He graduated from Weyauwega High School and lived much of his life in the Marshfield, Waupaca, and Racine areas. Carl married Beulah Prink in Racine in 1936. They raised two daughters, Karlene (Red) Beyer of Spencer and Judy (Moe) Clark of Racine. Carl was employed in various sales positions throughout his life and, at the time of his retirement, he had been a security guard at MATC in Milwaukee. Carl enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife. After retirement he kept busy as a driver for Waupaca county and acting as general handyman for the apartment complexes he lived in. Carl is survived by his daughters, Karlene and Judy; granddaughters, Kris (Steve) Gessert of Chippewa Falls, Brenda (Tim) Garrigan of Stratford, and Laura (Mark) Sterling of Virginia; great grandchildren, Tarin, Kate, Stefanie, Jaime, Sean, Olympia, Crystal, Felicia, Forrest, and Dalton; three great-great grandchildren; and a special friend Nancy Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. A funeral service was held at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 17. Chaplain John Schmidt officiated. A visitation was held at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for Bethany Home in Waupaca.
