Help offered to seniors for homestead tax credit

Kathy Austin, a benefit specialist for Waupaca County, and AARP volunteers will help seniors file their 2010 Homestead Tax Credit and income tax returns at area senior centers.

Only those who resided for a full year in Wisconsin in 2011, either owners or renters, qualify for the Homestead Tax Credit. The credit is also only available to those whose household income is under $24,680.

There is no charge for this service.

Tax assistance is available at the following times and locations:

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, Clintonville Senior Center.

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, New London Senior Center.

• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, Marion Senior Center (tax credit only).

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, Waupaca Senior Center.

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, Little Wolf Town Hall, Manawa, (income tax only).

• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, Little Wolf Town Hall, Manawa, (tax credit only).

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, Waupaca Senior Center.

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, New London Senior Center.

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, Wisconsin Veterans Home, Marden Hall (income tax for residents only).

• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, Marion Senior Center (tax credit only).

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 8, New London Senior Center.

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, Wisconsin Veterans Home, Marden Hall (income tax for residents only).

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, Waupaca Senior Center.

• Noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 15, Little Wolf Town Hall, Manawa (tax credit only).

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, Clintonville Senior Center.

• 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, Waupaca Senior Center.

• 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, March 22, Iola Senior Center/Living Oaks (tax credit only).

To receive assistance, seniors must bring a 2011 property tax bill or a completed rent certificate signed by the landlord; bank statements or other documents showing interest and dividends earned in 2011, Social Security statement of 2011 benefits, proof of any other 2011 income, amount of Medicare premium deducted from Social Security, amount of monthly Medicare Supplemental premium and monthly Long Term Care insurance premium.
