T-Birds drop pair of games

The Iola-Scandinavia boys’ basketball team dropped recent Central Wisconsin 8 Conference games to Shiocton and Stevens Point Pacelli.

Shiocton handed the Thunderbirds a 77-43 loss Friday, Jan. 27, while Pacelli picked up a 55-47 win Tuesday, Jan. 24.

SHIOCTON – Five Shiocton players scored in double figures as the Chiefs shot 54 percent from the floor.

The Chiefs led 16-8 after one quarter, 37-17 at halftime and 63-24 after three quarters.

Bradly Hardel led all scorers with 18 points, while teammate D.J. Loken added 11. Jacob Van Asten led Shiocton with 17 points, while Riley Van Asten and Talon Heinemeyer finished with 12 each, Levi Singler chipped in with 11 and Kyle Coenen scored 10.

Pacelli 55, I-S 47

IOLA – The Cardinals outscored the T-Birds 11-4 in the first quarter and led 29-15 at halftime. The T-Birds cut into the lead with a 16-10 advantage in the third quarter, but Pacelli outscored the home team 16-14 in the fourth period.

Zach Gauerke led the T-Birds with 13 points, while Hardel scored 12 and Connor Lodewegen added 10. Pacelli’s Isaac Elliott led all scorers with 15.

The T-Birds hosted Rosholt Tuesday, Jan. 31, for Rock the Gym and will return to CWC-8 play tonight (Thursday, Feb. 2) at home against Amherst.
