Carey, Kenneth F.

Kenneth F. Carey, Waupaca, Wisconsin, formerly of Amherst, Wisconsin, age 96, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at Bethany Home in Waupaca, WI. He was born June 28, 1915 in Amherst, WI, son of Lewis P. and Winnie (Frederickson) Carey. Kenneth enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in Germany during WWII where he was honorably discharged in 1945. On October 18, 1943, Kenneth married Margaret K. Hetzel in Milwaukee, WI. She preceded him in death on December 16, 2007. At age 95, Ken made the trip on the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington, DC with his special friend, Daniel Gorchals. He was very proud of this and his time spent in the military. Kenneth was a member of Amherst United Methodist Church. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends. Kenneth is survived by: children: Dennis (Gwen) Carey of Wausau, WI; Caren (Robert) Mittelstaedt of Waupaca, WI; Janice (Dennis) Krusick of Wausau, WI; Cindy (Donald) Maggio of Waupaca, WI; Scott Carey of Amherst, WI; grandchildren: Brenda (John) Shick of Baraboo, WI; Vicki (Mike) Glassbrenner of Eau Claire, WI; Sandy (Jessica) Bremmer of Scandinavia, WI; Robert John (Kara) Mittelstaedt of Neenah, WI; Kerri (Dave) Stiller of Baldwin, WI; Kandi Krusick of Omaha, NE; Jason (Jill) Maggio of Iola, WI; Medea (Brad) Gabrielse of Madison, WI; 17 great-grandchildren and also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Winnie Carey; his wife, Margaret Carey; a grandson, Timothy Bremmer; and three brothers, Dwight, Russell, and infant Gerald Carey. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Amherst United Methodist Church in Amherst, WI. Pastor Jim Scott officiated. A visitation was held on Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at the Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Old Glory Honor Flight, 4650 W. Spencer Street, Appleton, WI 54914 or to the Sunday School Program at the Amherst United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 188, Amherst, WI 54406. The Jungers-Holly Funeral Home of Amherst is assisting the family with arrangements. A special thank-you to Bethany Pines and Bethany Home of Waupaca for all of their help and support to our family over the past few weeks, months, and years. Bethany Pines has been very caring and compassionate, and our father was extremely grateful for this these past 3 1/2 years. The special care Ken received will never be forgotten.
