U.S. 10 crash in Waupaca

Several crashes occurred on U.S. 10 in Waupaca County Friday due to an early morning snowfall.

A semi and a sports utility vehicle were involved in a crash shortly 7:30 a.m. on U.S. 10 about 200 feet west of County Road E.

According to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department, an eastbound sports utility vehicle lost control on the icy roadway, went across the median, spun in tn the westbound lane of traffic, hitting a westbound semi.

The semi spun around, went into the north ditch and hit a traffic sign.

The driver of the SUV was thrown from the vehicle and onto the eastbound lanes. The Waupaca Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to remove a child from the SUV.

The driver and the child were taken by ambulance to Riverside Medical Center, then transferred by ambulance to ThedaClark medical Center.

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department is not releasing names pending further investigation of the crash.
