Six Bulldog wrestlers advance to sectionals

Six Bulldogs will advance to sectionals after their strong performances at regionals in Stevens Point Saturday, Feb. 11.

Kevin Urban took first place at 113 pounds and will advance to sectionals. He won by pin over Hortonville’s Cameron Luker in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round. In the first place match, Urban won a 10-8 decision over Zach Vosters of Menasha.

Andrew Ritchie took second place at 220 pounds. He had a first round bye and then earned a 4-1 decision over Hortonville’s Walker Gorges. Ritchie lost in the first place match to Zeek Hooyman of Menasha, who pinned Ritchie in 4:24.

Austin Wyngaard placed third at 132 pounds. He earned a first round bye and lost his semifinal match to Kevin Granatelli of Appleton North, 8-7. Wyngaard won an 8-1 decision over Hortonville’s Collin Olk in the third place match.

Andrew Moser placed third at 138 pounds. He beat Appleton North’s Gabe Rohloff by pin in the first round, but was then pinned by Keegan Einerson of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln. In the third place match, Moser won by a 1-0 decision over Tyler Engle of Stevens Point. He then lost the second place match to Hortonville’s Nate Rynish by a 2-0 score.

Brett Handschke placed fourth at 160 pounds. He earned a 5-0 decision over Menasha’s Jared Conlon in the first round but was pinned by Hortonville’s Kegan Gennrich in the second round. Handschke lost in the third place match to Billy Duffert of Stevens Point, 10-2. Handschke won the fourth place match by rule since he had already beaten Jared Conlon of Menasha.

Austin Postel placed fourth at 170 pounds. He won his quarterfinal match over Jared Luker of Hortonville by a 7-1 decision. Postel then lost by tech fall to Zak Benitz of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln. Stevens Point’s Nick Molski beat Postel 2-1 in the third place match, but Postel earned fourth place by rule since he had beaten Jared Luker.

Sectionals will take place Saturday, Feb. 18, in Pulaski.
