Eppensteiner, Herbert

Herbert Eppensteiner, Waupaca, WI, age 62 – passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at his residence. He was born on August 5, 1949 in Tamsweg, Austria, a son of the late Herbert and Maria (Hoenegger) Eppensteiner. He came to the U.S. to help his aunt and uncle run their German hotel and restaurant in Marquette, MI. After becoming a U.S. citizen he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War. Following his time in the service he had a number of jobs, mostly cooking and roofing. He enjoyed many activities with his close friends. He loved to throw horse shoes and he had been in a horse shoe league and also enjoyed playing for fun with his friends at the park. He had been active in a pool league for many years. He was an avid bowler and had been involved in bowling leagues at Nelson’s Strike Zone in Waupaca. Some of his other interests include riding motorcycle, playing cribbage, cooking, home improvements, and watching the Green Bay Packers. Herbert is survived by his loving partner, Emilie Eppensteiner of Waupaca; his ex-wife, Toni Eppensteiner of Marquette, MI; children: Erik (Zosia) Eppensteiner, and Herbert Eppensteiner, Jr, both of Marquette, MI; a grandson, Max Eppensteiner; a brother, Wilhelm Eppensteiner of Marquette, MI; his mother-in-law, Sally (Mike) Jensen of Medford, WI; brothers-in-law: Nate Maurer of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Phil Maurer of Laurel, MT, and brother-in-law, Voelker of Hungary. He is also survived by many dear friends, and his cats, Twinkie and Snooky. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Sieglunde Eppensteiner. We would like to express a multitude of thanks to Ministry Hospice of Stevens Point for their time, love, care, and dedication to Herb in his final weeks. A special thank you to nurses Justin and Peggy for all their wonderful care and words of comfort. “We love you Herbie!” from all your family and close friends. Emilie wishes to express her thanks to her mom and Shelly for all their time, energy, support, comfort, and love in Herb’s final days and hours. “I love you all, and God bless you all.” Herb’s wishes are to be cremated and the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at Nelson’s Strike Zone in Waupaca, WI at a later date.
