Clintonville booms recorded
The city of Clintonville now has an audio recording of the booms that have kept residents awake at night.
A 10-second audio tape was recorded for the city by Brian Sullivan, a student at the Madison Area Technical College.
Sullivan has been volunteering to assist the city on and off throughout the two week period whenever he has been available.
“It has clearly been a challenge to capture one of the booms on an audio tape and to make it audible to listeners,” said City Administrator Lisa Kuss in a press release issued Sunday, April 1.
Sullivan recorded the event on March 24. Five seconds into the recording, a faint booming sound can be hear. At the seventh second, Sullivan’s voice can be heard yeling that he he just heard the same boom.
“Finally we have the captured boom so that listeners can share in the event recorded on March 24,” Kuss said. “This is exactly what people are hearing when they discuss hearing a booming sound.” Kuss explained.
Clintonville now has four seismometers in and around the city which will give the U.S. Geological Survey a better chance to pick up small events.
In order to accurately pinpoint the times of events, the city asks citizens hearing or feeling anything to call the Clintonville Police Department at 715-823-3117.
