Waupaca Art Show opens April 29

The 2012 Waupaca Art Show will run from Sunday, April 29 through Friday, May 4, at the Waupaca Expo Center.

It will be open for public viewing from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 29, with a judges’ critique at 2:30 p.m.

The show will also be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, April 30 through Thursday, May 3 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 4.

Artists may still send entries to the Waupaca Fine Arts Festival, 730 E. Lake St., Waupaca, WI 54981.

Artists may drop off their work from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, April 27 and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28. They may pick up their work from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, May 4 and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5.

This year’s judges are Sarah Detwieler in photography, Christine Style in 2-D and Bill McKee in 3-D.

Detweiler is a professor of photography at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and former officer for the midwest region of the Society for Photographic Education.

She has exhibited at Syracuse University, MASS Art, Southern Illinois-Carbondale University, Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, NOVA Studio in Chicago, Cricket Engine Gallery and Studio Space in Oakland, Calif., as well as in Scotland.

While earning her master of fine arts from the University of Florida, Detweiler was also a part of an artist run collective called The Art Store.

Style is a professor of art at UW-Green Bay, teaching all levels of printmaking (intaglio, relief, screen printing, lithography, monotype) and drawing.

She has her master of fine arts degree in printmaking from UW-Milwaukee after receiving her bachelor of science degree in art from UW-Madison.

Style maintains a private studio near her home and a public studio at the ARTgarage in Green Bay. She has been in numerous regional, national and international juried and invitational exhibits.

She is currently president of the Wisconsin Visual Artists State board, as well as on the board for the ARTgarage and Print Forum at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

She has been leading studio art workshops to Florence, Italy for more than 10 years.

McKee has worked as Art Shop Manager since 1998 and has taught Introduction to 3D design and Carving and Assemblage.

While most of his work history lies outside of the art field (social services and residential construction), his interests and efforts in art date back to the early 1970s.

His work includes carvings in stone and wood and collages/assemblages of mixed media. He has had work shown at various galleries in Portage and Waupaca counties in Wisconsin, and in Bellingham and Anacortes, Wash.
