I-S golfers get off to solid start

The Iola-Scandinavia boys’ golf team is off to a good start, according to coach Alan Bauer.

“We have some new golfers on our varsity team this season and a couple of returning veterans,” he said. “Our varsity team consists of seniors Tanner Olson and Ryan Przybylski, junior Andrew Bauer and sophomores Kyle Honken and Nolan Wolberg.”

The Thunderbirds opened Central Wisconsin Conference match play at the Stevens Point Country Club. Bonduel won with a team score of 181, followed by Iola-Scandinavia, 185; Stevens Point Pacelli, 194; and Amherst, 201. Bauer turned in the low round with a 43. The T-Bird junior varsity team won its match with a 215, with Mike Blum leading the way with a 53.

The team then travelled to the Irish Course at Whistling Straits, where the weather was cool and the wind blew fiercely off of Lake Michigan. I-S carded a 395 to take second place in challenging conditions.

“This was a fantastic experience for these Central Wisconsin golf teams,” Bauer said.

The T-Birds hosted a CWC meet Monday, April 23, at Glacier Wood Golf Course. Przybylski led the team with a 40 as the T-Birds won the meet with a 175. Other team scores were Pacelli, 188; Shiocton, 190; and Manawa, 229.
