Primrose Gardens & Gifts holds grand opening

Manawa residents have a new greenhouse to visit as Primrose Gardens & Gifts held its grand opening Friday, May 11.

Dean and Emily Svacina, bought the vacant greenhouse in Manawa because they wanted to grow more of their own plants. Dean said the greenhouse was vacant for around four years and was in “pretty bad shape” when they bought it.

“I specifically got this one because I wanted to do some of our own growing,” Svacina said. “The other business we just ordered in everything. We couldn’t grow anything because we just rented the property. With this property we can start grown [our own plants]. It’s another way to keep the prices lower for the customers and for us to have more stock.”

Svacina said he has been in the business for five years and also rents a shop in Waupaca.

He said he plans to stock the Manawa location with lots of annuals, baskets, perennials, nursery stock and gifts. In other words, “pretty much anything to make your garden pretty,” Dean said.

Business has been good since Primrose Gardens & Gifts opened in mid-April, Svacina said.

“The city of Manawa has been great,” Svacina said. “The customers all seem to be glad that we’re back, that we re-opened the greenhouse here. It’s been really, really good.”

Svacina said it has been challenging finding time for everything.

“We’re hoping to keep this open-year round,” Svacina said. “If the sales are there we are going to keep it open all year. We’ll have fall flowers and pumpkins and we are going to have poinsettias around Christmas.”
