Billington, Harold F.

Harold F. Billington, (also known as “Bill” and “Ike”) age 74, of Weyauwega, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2012. Harold was a current resident of the Veteran’s Home at King after having lived most of his life in Weyauwega. He was born November 5, 1937, in Weyauwega, the son of Alton and Dorothy (Holcombe) Billington. He graduated from Weyauwega High School and on November 12, 1954 he joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served our country during the Korean War. He was serving at Fort Donaldson Air Force Base in Greenville, SC, when he met the love of his life, Wynona (Davene) Rogers. They married on September 15, 1956, in Greenville, SC. In 1966, Harold and Davene returned to Weyauwega and purchased what would be Billington’s Beer and Liquor, which they ran for 7 years. Harold was then employed at Wichmann’s Furniture in Appleton and at Hillshire Farm (Sara Lee), New London from which he retired in 1999 after 22 years. Harold loved to be outside most of all. He was an avid golfer and Harold and his wife belonged to Weymont Country Club for all but the past three years. Harold also loved fishing and hunting and his dog, Sadie. He was known for his love of cooking. Harold was a member of the American Legion Post 176, Weyauwega; he and a member of the Masonic Lodge 82 of Manawa. Harold was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Weyauwega. Harold is survived by his wife, Davene; three children: Berray, Appleton, WI; Cheryl (Mark) Weaver, Weyauwega, WI; Kathy (Mark Lemke), Appleton, WI; 10 grandchildren: Bryan (Mellissa) Schumacher, Jordan (Jessica) Schumacher, Joshua Oehlke, Mackenzie Oehlke, Emily Billington, Elizabeth Billington, Eleanor Billington, Rachel Lemke; 2 great-grandchildren: Caydance and Amelia Schumacher. He was also blessed with 2 step-grandchildren, Megan (Dave) Kaschak, Kimberly, WI and Haylee Weaver (special friend, Thomas), Appleton, WI and their children: Tylee and Jaxson Kaschak and Bentley Wilson. He is also survived by his brothers and their wives, Richard (Eunice); James (Pat) and a loving extended family of nieces and nephews and friends he made along the way- especially his good friends, Bill Van Schyndel of Appleton; Alex and Johanna Mueller, of Brookfield, WI and his golf partner of many years, Dave Flanagan, of New London. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Edward and Sallie Abraham and a very special nephew, Brad Billington. A Memorial Service in celebration of Harold’s life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Pine Street, Weyauwega, WI, on Saturday, May 26 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be at First Presbyterian Church on Friday, May 25, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and again on Saturday, May 26, 2012 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. The family would like to thank those who cared for Harold: his special nurses at Fresenius in Neenah; Lisa, Judy, Annette, and Anita; Dr. Koepper and all those at Fox Valley Nephrology, Dr. Fletcher and his nurses, Dr. Mariano and those at the Device Clinic, Dr. Earl Anderson and the Theda Care Hospice team. A very special thank you to all those who cared for him at the Veteran’s Home in King. (You know who you are!) We know our dad is golfing again, playing fetch with his beloved yellow lab, Sadie, and most of all, keeping everyone in stitches with his sense of humor and his quick wit. We love you, Dad!
