Schmidt, James Harry

James Harry Schmidt, 79, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 31, 2012, in the Town of Helvetia, Ogdensburg, Wisconsin with family at his side. Jim was born April 14, 1933, the second child of Harry Schmidt and Flossie (Radke) Schmidt. Born in the Town of Grant, Shawano, Wisconsin, grew up in Marion, Wisconsin. Jim was in the U.S. Air Force 69th Fighter Bomber Squadron during the Korean War. Upon returning home he married, raised five children and has worked as a farmer, meat cutter, and carpenter. His most enjoyable job the past 20 years had been running his portable sawmill business where he loved meeting new people and exchanging jokes. He is survived by his former wife, Nona; his five children, Bonnie Olson (Vance), Wendy Lederhaus (Ken), Lealoni Radtke (Russell), Daniel Schmidt (Stepheni), Dawn Peterson (Charlie), along with 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving companion, Edna Johnson, of 27 years, along with her many extended loving family members. Also survived by a sister, Eunice Lubinski of Appleton and brother Robert Schmidt (Judy) of Minocqua and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention. There will be a private family graveside service with full military honors at the Wisconsin Veterans Home Cemetery in King, Wisconsin at a later date.
