Give peace a chance after the election

It’s Saturday morning as I write this, three days before the election that has polarized our state.

It is obvious that whoever becomes governor will win by a small percentage, not a sweeping mandate. So whoever wins, congratulations, but let’s not get carried away. Our state has to work better together, so starting today can’t we all try to be more civil and less sharply opinionated?

There is room for the far left and the far right to take a small step to the center and start working for a better state and country

Let’s hope that next week we don’t see gloating editorials from either side, or letters explaining why the other person lost because of crooked lies in the campaign.

Maybe the small step may simply be the left agreeing that the budget needed fixing and the deficit is fixed because of what happened in our state government. Perhaps the small step from the right will be understanding how unfair it would feel to you to lose your basic negotiating rights and realizing that the budget balancing came mostly out of your pocket?

Here is to a more peaceful remainder of whichever governor is in office for the next couple of years.
