Gast, Eldrew W.

Eldrew W. Gast, age 86, of Fremont, died on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. He was born on January 26, 1926, in Medina, the son of the late Elmer and Anna (Selle) Gast. Eldrew attended Cedar Grove and New London High School. He served his country in the US Army, and was currently a member of Wolf River American Legion Post 391. On September 25, 1948, Eldrew married Wilma Berndt at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Zittau. Eldrew was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dale, where he served on the council and school board, and was a member of the Men’s Club, Couples Club, and a Pioneer Club leader. He was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield. Eldrew enjoyed gardening, bowling, dartball, fishing, hunting and doing puzzles. Eldrew is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wilma; two sons, Bruce (Lana), Larsen and Randy (Special friend, Gladys Fleck), Fremont; a daughter, Candace (Lee) Kohler, Fremont; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and another on the way; a sister, Virginia Johnson, New London; five brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, a niece, and a nephew. A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, N985 County Rd.W, Readfield. Rev. Peter Kesting officiated. Visitation was held on Saturday, at the church, from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Eldrew’s family wishes to extend a very special Thank you to Pastors Kesting, Deiner, Krueger, and Zittlow, as well as Chaplain Schwanke at King, for their many visits and prayers. They also wish to thank the staff at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, Peabody Manor, the Dialysis Center, Froedert Hospital, and ThedaCare at Home Hospice for all of their wonderful care during this time.
