The American Cancer Society is recruiting teams for the Waupaca Relay for Life.
Slated to begin at 5 p.m. Friday, July 27, Relay for Life will be held in Swan Park.
The annual event brings together former and current cancer patients, those who have lost a loved one to cancer, families, businesses, churches and civic groups to raise funds for cancer research, treatment and patient support,
During Relay for Life, teams of people camp out in the park and take turns walking around the paths for the duration of the event.
There are food, games and activities, entertainment and fundraising opportunities. Many of the teams decorate their tent according to a theme and dress up in costumes.
Relay for Life starts with a Survivors Lap – an inspirational time when survivors are invited to circle the track together and help everyone celebrate the victories that have been achieved over cancer
After dark, participants honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember those lost to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony.
