A rider cruises up Waupaca’s Lakeside Parkway Aug. 18 during the second leg of the 12th annual Waupaca Area Triathon.
The event included a half-mile swim in Shadow Lake, a 20.1-mile bicycle ride and a 3.1-mile run on Waupaca streets.
Will Smith of Mount Horeb and Jessica Yurchich of Madison turned in the fastest overall long course male and female times of 1:14.30 and 1:33.29, respectively.
Temperatures were in the mid-40s as swimmers headed out in waves of 50 starting at 7 a.m., but conditions for the triathlon turned out to be near-perfect.
