Wolves beat Pacelli Cardinals, 50-24

The Manawa Wolves varsity football team earned a key victory over the Pacelli Cardinals on Saturday, Sept. 8, by a score of 50-24.

Both teams scored in the first quarter, but Manawa held a 7-6 lead at the end of the frame. The Wolves added 13 points in the second quarter to take a 20-6 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, Pacelli added six points, but Manawa kept the pedal to the metal, scoring 14 more points. In the fourth quarter, Pacelli scored 12, but Manawa scored 16 to keep the game well out of reach.

The Wolves picked up 432 rushing yards and 13 passing yards. The team was penalized seven times for 67 yards. The Wolves also had two passes intercepted and lost a fumble to the Cardinals.

Logan Hass had a huge game, rushing for 252 yards on 21 attempts with three touchdowns. Garret Griffin rushed 10 times for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Luke Wilz added 37 yards on eight carries.

Quarterback Donny Sell completed one pass for 13 yards and a touchdown to Aaron Strebe, but had two passes intercepted.

Manawa’s defense intercepted three passes and picked up two Cardinal fumbles. Krauss, Strebe, and Casey Johnson picked off the errant Cardinal passes. Brandon Bartel recovered a Cardinal fumble which resulted in a Wolves touchdown.

The Wolves host Amherst at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at the new athletic complex.
