Manawa teachers get 3.16% raise

Teachers in the Manawa School District will receive a 3.16 wage increase for 2012-13.

At its August meeting, the Manawa School Board approved the wage increase pending the approval from the Manawa Educational Association (MEA). The MEA did approve the wage increase, and the school board finalized the wage increase at its September meeting.

In the Salary/Wage/Distribution Agreement, the district stated it would only bargain for wages and wage distribution for the 2012-13 school year. Also, the base wage would by calculated using the WERC costing rules.

The wage increase equates to an average increase of $1,238 per fulltime teacher. The overall budget will be impacted by $66,698.

The base wage was not increased last year, instead, a one-time stipend was paid out.

In other business, the board approved a one-year contract for Kim L. Poli to be the math and physics teacher at an annual salary of $31,099, which will be prorated to 185 days for a total of $30,602.

The board approved the hiring of Marie Murphy as school district nurse at $25 per hour for 109 school days. It also approved Dr. Steven Goedderz to a medical advisory position. Ed Dombrowski, district administrator for the School District of Manawa said Dr. Goedderz wants to work with the district. Dr. Goedderz will not charge the district to be in this medical advisory position.

The board also approved the hiring of a Junior High School cross country coach at a cost of $1,200 per season. Board President, Kurt Kreklow said the contract is pro-rated so it will cost the district roughly $600.

The October Manawa Board of Education meeting will take place on Monday, Oct. 29, starting at 7:30 p.m. The Annual District meeting will follow at 8 p.m. in the Manawa Elementary School Commons.
