Late goals give Comets the win

A pair of late goals lifted Waupaca to a 2-0 win over Clintonville Oct. 6 in a Division 2 boys’ soccer state tournament matchup at Waupaca High School.

Neither team was able to find the net until Frerk Schreiber’s unassisted goal in the 72-minute mark broke a scoreless tie. David Rasmussen added an unassisted goal less than three minutes later.

Waupaca outshot the Truckers 25-2.

The Comets, the eighth-seeded team in their regional, will now take on top-seeded Appleton Xavier at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in a regional semifinal on the Hawks’ home field. Xavier handed the Comets a 6-0 loss earlier this season.
