Wolves top Bears, earn playoff spot

The Manawa Wolves varsity football team posted a 36-22 win over the Bonduel Bears on Friday, Oct. 5.

The win earned Manawa a playoff berth.

The Wolves scored 15 points in the first quarter and added seven in the second quarter, but Bonduel posted 16 points in the second quarter to keep the game in reach. Manawa led 22-16 at halftime.

Bonduel tied the game by scoring six points in the third quarter while keeping Manawa out of the end zone.

In the fourth quarter, the Wolves defense stepped up, not allowing the Bears to score in the period. The offense scored 14 points in the final frame to secure the victory.

Logan Hass had another epic evening, rushing for 273 yards on 42 attempts with four touchdowns. Wes Krauss added 29 yards on three carries, while Donny Sell rushed 10 times for 37 yards. Sam Koehn carried the ball 15 times for 85 yards and one touchdown.

Sell completed three of five passes for 30 yards with one interception.

On the defensive side of the ball, Hass intercepted one pass and returned it 34 yards. He also had five solo tackles, one assisted tackle, and one pass deflection.

Krauss added four solo tackles, and Koehn posted three solo tackles and six assisted tackles. Matthew Heimbruch tallied one solo tackle, five assisted tackles, and also came up with an interception. Dominic Schuelke had one solo tackle, one assisted tackle, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

The Wolves will host Weyauwega-Fremont on Friday, Oct. 12. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
