Dance of Life
We dance like fireflies
in the warm, sweet June night
The darkness descending
We shine and glitter
wink and blink
alive with the joy of life
We wink and blink
some bold and bright
others soft and shimmering
but always the light
the light in the darkness
Frantic at times
Then serenity
breathing the soft night air
Beating our wings
looping and shining
in our hour
Then the unseen hand
snuffs our lights
each one-in its time
replaced by other dancing lights
mourned by the soft warm night
that loved us.
