I-S School Board approves coaching contracts

The Iola-Scandinavia School Board approved the contract of Dan Loken as junior varsity boys’ basketball coach and Tim Welch as freshmen boys’ basketball coach when it met Nov. 12.

Also approved was the Iola-Scandinavia High School band trip to Milwaukee and Chicago.

The band will be traveling on Friday, March 22 through Sunday, March 24, to Northwestern University where they will perform and be critiqued by Northwestern Professors.

Following this event they will visit some local attractions and be attending a play or musical in the area.

Their final stop will be at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, where they will perform for the pre-game of the Milwaukee Bucks vs. Atlanta Hawks game.

Tess Lecy-Wojcik recognized Derek Haroldson, 4K teacher, for winning the Lysol Healthy Class Room Sweepstakes.

With his prize he will be purchasing an ipad for his classroom.

Duane Braun reported that they have received donations from the Iola Lions and Norseman Hotel for the One to One Computer Program.

Tony Neumann, President of the Thunderbird Booster Club, gave an update of the organizations progress.

He noted that a total of 251 hours of volunteer time had been paid out to organizations within the school at the conclusion of the fall sports season.

Neumann went on the say that currently, the organization has $6,700 in their account.

The next school board meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10.

Prior to this meeting the Policy and Legislation Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. and the Finance Committee at 7:30 p.m.
