Forfeits help Comets top Truckers

Waupaca’s wrestling team opened the season Nov. 29 with a 40-27 Eastern Valley Conference win over Clintonville.

Clintonville won five of the seven contested matches, but the Comets took advantage of six Trucker forfeits.

Waupaca’s wins came on Tony Friese’s pin of Shayne Collar in 1:36 at 152 pounds and Jordan Grenlie’s 15-6 major decision over Chase Jung at 160.

Clintonville’s wins came on Tim Jerabek’s pin of Chandler Nimmer in 1:31 at 138, Charlie Poppe’s pin of Mitch Molder in 1:49 at 170, Jake Reiter’s pin of Caleb Hobson in 1:17 at 220, Matt Hill’s 7-3 decision over Blake Thoe at 285 and Kelvin Van Laarhoven’s pin of Alex Gotto in 1:33 at 126.

The Truckers forfeited to Eric Bolwerk (106), Guy Tessen (120), Ethen Riley (132), Levi Petroske (145) and Mike Hagen (182).

Waupaca’s Mitch Rotta picked up a 16-1 technical fall win over Darin Carrigg at 138 in the only junior varsity match.
