Engel, Gerald

Gerald (Jerry) Fredrick Engel, age 61 of Garland, TX, formerly of Clintonville passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Baylor Medical Center of Texas, after a brief battle with cancer.
Jerry was born August 20, 1951 in Milwaukee, but spent the majority of his childhood growing up in Clintonville. He is the only boy in the family of Joan I Engel-Downie and the late John F Engel with 3 younger sisters. He attended UW Stevens Point and served 8 years in the US Navy. After leaving the Navy he spent some time in Florida working and then found employment in Texas with Texas Instruments, Raytheon and last with Axiom. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, sailing, boating, scuba diving and electronics, especially building computers.
Jerry is survived by his mother, Joan I Engel-Downie, Dowling Park, FL; his sisters, Julie L Hill, Clintonville, Jean M (Ron) Auler, Oshkosh and Joyce T (William) Davidson, Clintonville, 2 uncles, 1 aunt, 4 cousins, many nieces and nephews, his very close friends from the Dallas, Texas area, Mac and April Veregas, Ray Harrison, Ken Beal, Diane Packard, and his 2 beloved cats, Little Mouser and Tiger Beast. He is preceded in death by his father, John F Engel and his grandparents Hilton G and Mildred D Engel.
A Celebration of Life was held in Garland, Texas late in November and will be held again on Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in Clintonville at the Veteran’s Memorial Building. A memorial has been established in Jerry’s name at the Garland Animal Sanctuary, Garland, Texas, where his beloved cats will reside until adoption arrangements are made. Jerry will truly be missed, but may we all find comfort knowing he’s with our Lord.
