Trucks stop Hawks in overtime

The Trucker boys’ varsity basketball team earned a thrilling 71-64 overtime win over the Xavier Hawks on Friday, Nov. 30.

Clintonville led 17-11 after one quarter and 33-28 at halftime.

The Truckers kept up the pressure in the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 11-8.

The fourth quarter was a different story, as Xavier went off for 21 points, while the Truckers scored 13. With both teams tied at the final buzzer, the game was sent to overtime.

In overtime, Clintonville outscored Xavier 14-7 to secure the 71-64 win.

Clintonville was a blistering 21 of 42 (50 percent) from the field, while Xavier made 22 of 48 (45.8 percent).

The Truckers made 9 of 21 from 3-point land (42.9 percent) while Xavier made 7 of 21 (33.3 percent).

Clintonville was 20 of 23 (87 percent) from the free throw line, while Xavier made 13 of 18 (72.2 percent).

Xavier had 22 rebounds, with six on the offensive end. Clintonville pulled down 21 rebounds, with four coming on the offensive end of the court.

The Truckers had 16 assists, compared to Xavier’s 13. The Truckers turned the ball over 19 times and had eight steals, while Xavier had 16 turnovers and nine steals.

Clintonville outscored Xavier in the paint, 58-56, and the Trucker bench outscored Xavier’s bench, 14-8.

Aaron Ziemer had 22 points for Clintonville, while John Schultz added 17. Jansen Van Daalwyk and Adam Weatherwax both scored eight.

Kolin Kubitz scored seven, while Aaron Schmidt added six. Jesse Brauer added three points to round out the scoring.

The Truckers play at home at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8.
