Helgeson-Twetan, Mary Ann M.

Mary Ann M. Helgeson-Twetan, age 83, of Stevens Point, formerly of Iola, died Saturday, December 8th, 2012 at Oakridge Senior Living in Stevens Point.

Mary Ann was born in Neenah, Wisconsin on May 25, 1929, the daughter of the late August and Anna (Lemke) Winter and attended schools in Neenah, Synco and Tigerton. She married Charles Helgeson on June 12, 1948. They farmed in the Town of Harrison in Waupaca County until his death on Dec 15, 1978. She then married Orin Twetan on August 23, 1986 and lived in Iola until his death on January 22, 2003. Mary Ann worked at Zwicker Knitting Mills in Waupaca and Krause Publications in Iola for many years. She was a sunday school teacher, member of various women’s groups at Northland and Our Savior’s Lutheran Churches and was a 4H leader. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening and especially enjoyed working with 4 H kids; teaching them how to sew.

She is survived by son, Randolph (Debra) Helgeson of Milton; daughter, Deborah Zurawski of Plover; grandchildren; Derek (Kathy) Helgeson, Renee (Phillip) Murphy, Jennifer Zurawski and Aaron Zurawski; great grandchildren; Kashton and Hadley Murphy, and Ava Swanson; sister, Lucille Vandenberg and brother, Russell (Laverne) Winter.

A Funeral Service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 13th, with Reverend Dennis Olson officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 10-11 AM. Interment will be in the Northland Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Harrison, Waupaca County, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name to the Parkinson’s Foundation. The family would like to thank the staff at Oakridge Senior Living and also to the hospice caregivers for their care of Mary Ann.
