Bay Area knocks off Waupaca Area

The Waupaca Area girls’ hockey team came out on the short end of a 6-1 score Dec. 15 to the Bay Area Ice Bears at the Waupaca Expo Center.

Chloe Koehn put Waupaca Area on the board first with a goal 1:08 into the game off of an assist from Molly Guyer and Brianne Huettner, but that turned out to be the team’s only goal of the day.

The Ice Bears, a co-op team including players from Ashwaubenon, Bay Port, De Pere and Green Bay Notre Dame high schools, answered with three goals in the first period, two in the second and one in the third.

“We’re playing as hard as we can play,” coach Tim Guyer said. “It’s unfortunate we can’t get a couple more (shots) to go in and change the flow of a game.”

Waupaca Area hosted the Fox Valley Stars Dec. 18 and will host Northland Pines at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Expo in a Great Northern Conference matchup.
