Pond Hockey Classic part of Waupaca’s Wintervergnugen

The Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce has planned its second annual Wintervergnügen for Saturday, Jan. 26.

The upcoming winter festival will include a new 4-on-4 Pond Hockey Classic.

The pond hockey tournament will be true to its origins where teams will compete against the elements, as well as their opponent. Teams will

be guaranteed three games and can register in three divisions; open, 40+ and women’s.

150′-foot-by-75-foot rinks will be created on Shadow Lake off the shore of Lower South Park near downtown Waupaca.

The deadline for registration is Friday, Jan. 4.

“We are excited to bring a pond hockey tournament to the Waupaca area as a fun activity for players and spectators alike as part of our second annual Wintervergnügen,” said Jeff Anderson, tourism director with the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to the pond hockey tournament, winter activities will be taking place throughout the day beginning at 10:00am. Activities include a broom ball tournament,

the third annual Waupaca Wresting Ice Fishing Jamboree, ice sculpture demonstrations, ice bowling, food, a beer tent and a fireworks display at dusk.

There is no charge for admission to the festival; however, tournaments and some activities do require a small fee. Pre-registration is required for the pond hockey and broom ball tournaments by contacting the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce.
