The Iola Lions recently presented a donation of $450 for the Iola-Scandinavia High School to Carley Peterson who is a senior there.
Peterson is collecting funds to bring a youth program, SOS for Youth, to the school.
The SOS for Youth program provides education and leadership development for youth and helps teach and promote the merits of individual responsibility by performing theatrical skits in a variety of contexts .
Each skit produced is carefully constructed and rehearsed in order to thoughtfully portray powerful messages related to issues that are crucial to the life and health of young people: substance abuse, bullying, depression, acceptance, grief, and physical and sexual abuse.
Both youth and adults learn how kids experience the pressures and demands placed upon them and they see new possibilities for positive actions they can take.
