Plach matches hospital donation

More than $1,700 was collected in Plach Automotive’s fundraising effort to fill the back of a pick-up truck with toys, iPads, DVD players, gift cards and gas cards for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley. Plach Automotive then matched that dollar amount.

This was the first year Plach Automotive has done this Christmas fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital.

Dan Plach, owner of Plach Automotive, said the idea for the fundraiser was a collaboration of everybody at the dealership. He said the goal was to pick an organization to donate to that “would touch everybody.”

Donations were collected through Dec. 10.

Plach said the fundraiser was a huge success. He said a representative from the Children’s Hospital told him it was the largest donation received.

He said the dealership received donations from all over the country via its Facebook page.

Donations were also dropped off in person at the dealership.

“Some anonymous people would stop in and give $100 and have tears in their eyes,” Plach said. “They’d say, ‘I just want to do this because my granddaughter was in there,’ or, ‘my child was in there.’ Some people would tell you the story of what happened.”

With the donations, Plach Automotive purchased gifts for the children, as well as gas cards for parents of the children at the hospital so the parents can visit their children.

“It was the coolest thing you ever wanted to see,” Plach said about the appreciation the hospital showed when the gifts were delivered.

Plach said the dealership plans to do the fundraiser again next year.

“I just want to thank the New London community and surrounding areas,” Plach said. “It was amazing, just amazing. The stories and the thoughtfulness was unbelievable.”
