Rotary seeks applicants for summer exchange program

Applications are available for the summer youth exchange program sponsored by Rotary Clubs in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

The program is open to both Rotarian and non-Rotarian families.

It offers area students the opportunity to have an international experience.

About 50 exchanges are available for students age 15-19.

From June through August, American students will have an opportunity to live with a host family in one of about 15 exchange countries.

Upon their return, the exchange student’s foreign brother or sister returns with them to the United Sates to experience American life. Exchanges are three to four weeks in length on both ends of the exchange.

Applications are processed in the order they are received.

Those received later may have fewer choices of countries.

Pre-applications are to be returned to the Waupaca Rotary Club Summer Youth Exchange coordinator by Feb. 15 for pre-screening.

For information and a pre-application, contact Waupaca Breakfast Rotary Short Term Youth Exchange Officer Henry Veleker at 715-258-4411/7457 or at [email protected].

Successful applicants will be notified immediately and will then have until Feb. 28 to submit their application to the Rotary District 6220 coordinator.

The application process is not difficult, and the cost of the exchange is affordable.

There is no fee to submit an application to the local Rotary exchange coordinator.

However, there is a $200 administrative fee required for filing the second application and includes the requirement to submit supplemental medical and accident insurance information.

There is also an orientation meeting attendance requirement.

Room, board, recreation and sightseeing are provided by the host families.
