Wolves defeat Oneida Nation, fall to W-F

It was an up and down week for the Manawa boys’ basketball team as they split their two games. They were triumphant on the road at Oneida Nation, winning 56-50 on Monday, Jan. 14. On Friday, Jan. 18 they dropped a 53-38 decision to Weyauwega-Fremont.

Playing on the road, the Wolves got off to a slow start at trailed 15-8 at the end of the first quarter. Manawa picked up the scoring in the second quarter, putting down 12 points. Defensively the team again gave up 15 points, so they trailed 30-20 at halftime.

Manawa gave up only nine points in the third quarter, but managed to score only five points in the quarter, allowing W-F to extend their lead. The two teams played even in the fourth quarter, with W-F outscoring Manawa by one point. When the final buzzer sounded, it was W-F taking a 53-38 victory.

Brandon Bartel was the only Manawa player in double figures with 11 points.

The Wolves host Bonduel on Friday, Jan. 25.

Manawa 56, Oneida Nation 50

Manawa got off to a hot start against Oneida taking a 19-13 lead after one quarter of play. Oneida once again scored 13 points in the second quarter, and trailed Manawa 30-26 at halftime.

The Wolves pulled away to a 16 point lead in the third quarter, as they outscored their opponent 14-2. Oneida battled back in the fourth quarter, putting up 22 points compared to Manawa’s 12 points. Manawa held on for the 56-50 win.

Wesley Krauss poured in 23 points for the Wolves and Alex Thompson added 10.
