Iola-Scandinavia’s boys’ basketball team came close to handing Shiocton its first Central Wisconsin 8 Conference loss.
The Chiefs came up with a steal and layup in the final minute Jan. 25 and added free throws down the stretch in a 46-45 win over the Thunderbirds.
I-S also fell to Stevens Point Pacelli 57-25 Jan. 22.

IOLA – Patrick Brouillard came up with the steal and layup and teammates Jacob Van Asten and Talon Heinemeyer each made two free throws in the final 30 seconds to give Shiocton a four-point lead before the Thunderbirds made a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Shiocton led 10-8 after one quarter and 22-19 at halftime, but the Thunderbirds outscored the Chiefs 12-5 in the third quarter to take a 31-27 lead into the final eight minutes.
John Prahl and Braiden Garbe led the T-Birds with 15 and 13 points, respectively, while Brouillard led all scorers with 15.
Pacelli 57, I-S 25
STEVENS POINT – Defense turned out to be the name of the game for Pacelli, as the Cardinals held to 15 points over the first three quarters.
Pacelli led 9-6 after one quarter, 27-10 at halftime and 43-15 after three quarters.
Prahl led the T-Birds with nine points, while James Gollon led Pacelli with 13.
The T-Bird boys’ and girls’ headed to Rosholt Jan. 29 for Rock the Gym games with the Hornets. The boys will head to Amherst tonight (Thursday, Jan. 31) and Cambria-Friesland Saturday, Feb. 2, for a 12:30 p.m. nonconference matchup with the Hilltoppers.
