Wolves fall to Bears

The Manawa boys’ basketball team closed out Think Pink Week by hosting the Bonduel Bears on Friday, Jan. 25. The Wolves never led during the game and took a 60-46 loss against the Bears.

The Bears jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Aaron Strebe put the Wolves on the board following a nice pass from Wesley Krauss. Krauss manage only two points during the game as foul trouble plagued him all night. Senior Austin Dean kept Manawa in the game during the first quarter by draining a three-pointer to pull Manawa to within three points at 12-9. Manawa trailed 16-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter Brandon Bartel’s basket had Manawa trailing by five points. A three point play by Bonduel’s Logan Artis sparked a 10-0 run allowing the Bears to have a controlling 32-18 halftime lead.

Artis opened the second half with back-to-back three-pointers, extending Bonduel’s lead to 37-18.

The Wolves were their own worst enemy as wide open three-pointers and layups were missed preventing any comeback.

Bonduel’s Connor Rosin led all scorers with 21 points and Artis added 14. Dean led the Wolves with 15 points.

The loss drops Manawa to 0-9 in conference play.

The Wolves host Stevens Point Pacelli, Friday, Feb. 1.
